Five Functions of the Christian
- Evangelism is sharing the message of Jesus Christ. It is telling others about the life change you have experienced through him (Mt 28:18-19).
- Teaching contains spiritual formation. In the Great Commission, Christ mandated his followers to teach others to obey his commands. So, not only are we teaching, but we are in a place of being taught. This also includes application; a carrying of one’s cross as a disciple of Christ (Mt 28:20; Lk 14:27, 33).
- Worship of God is a lifestyle. A lifestyle including prayer, observing church ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and giving of one’s resources. It can include singing, music, and gathering with other Christians (Mt 22:37; Ro 12:1).
- Mission relates to what God has called us to do. Some call this ministry, others may call it service, but it is, essentially, a Christian embracing and living out God’s purpose for his or her life (1Co 12:1-11; Eph 4:11-13).
- Fellowship is unity experienced as Christians join one another in following Jesus Christ (Ac 2:42-47).
